“This is how you love your own child”: Hannah Waddingham did not hesitate and proudly carried the cardboard bag that her 9-year-old daughter made for her for the SAG Awards

Hannah Waddingham looked as glam as always for the 2024 SAG Awards.

But the Ted Lasso star’s red carpet look had one extra special accessory that she hasn’t had with her for any other award shows thus far: a handbag that was handmade by her daughter.

Waddingham, 49, carried a cardboard clutch bag with her for the Saturday night ceremony, and it was decorated with plenty of rainbow colors. It also had the word “epic” written across it — the perfect word to describe the actress’ Tony Ward Couture look for the night.

Her deep red off-the-shoulder gown featured a thigh-high slit and long train, and she accessorized with just a few pieces of Norman Silverman jewelry so as to not distract from her gorgeous purse.

“My daughter wanted to contribute, so she’s made me a bag,” she said on Netflix’s red carpet preshow of her 9-year-old daughter and her artwork. She showed off the craftsmanship of the bag to host Elaine Welteroth while they bonded over motherhood.

Waddingham added of the glitz and glam of awards season, “This is all great but this [being is a mom] is the most important.”

Waddingham, who was nominated for her final season of Ted Lasso for outstanding performance by a female actor in a comedy series, opened up to PEOPLE last year about her daughter and their close relationship.

“My primary function is being a single mama,” she shared. “Mommy guilt is real, but I keep saying to her that we are a team and that I have to do this. I have to strike while the iron is hot. I’m not so conceited that I would think that I will always have this kind of focus. I’ve always said to her, ‘Mommy must take this time while the light shines on me, because the light shines on you.’”
